I could spend hours extrapolating on the ways that you can boil, simmer, fillet, bake, and baste a fish. I could research out healthier cooking habits, and talk about how to get the most out of your basic veggies. There are a thousand nutritional things this site could talk about. OR I could spend hours talking about my favorite way to show my family and friends that I think they’re special- with a gourmet dessert! The good news here is that desserts are also one of the greatest places to begin the journey to understanding recipes and cooking. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to be able to teach you how to become a genius gourmet baker. That’s a totally different level, I haven’t climbed that ladder because I don’t have the detailed eye for it. I have a friend who is an amazing baker, I swear she knows the ins and outs of how various ingredients work like a mad genius in a laboratory. Living with her right after college taught me many things: carpet cleaning is important, rainy days are the best for movies and of course baking is above and beyond what I can offer- BUT what I do specialize in is making really EASY snacks look incredibly gourmet. I’ll give you one fantastic example right here, a classic treat that has always seemed far more posh than it is!
The Classic Chocolate Covered Strawberry
This is one of those desserts that has a real class all it’s own. It is associated with everything from the most refined celebrations to the most romantic of evenings with your lover. The chocolate covered strawberry is sure to please and in reality it’s only a shell of sugar, with a center of healthy berry nutrition. SO what’s not to like about chocolate covered strawberries! Plus making them is super easy.
Get a cookie sheet and cover it with wax paper. Purchase a couple bags of chocolate chips- get white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, whatever tickles your fancy. Place the chocolate in a glass bowl inside a pan of boiling water stirring constantly until it’s completely melted. Then all you have to do is DIP and place it on your cookie sheet to cool!
If you get sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, coconut, caramel, crushed up peppermint candy, or any other topping you just drizzle it on before the chocolate has hardened. Place the cookie sheet in the fridge or freezer to harden the chocolate and voila! Easy as… well as that!
